So visceral. Your writing is just...guh. <3333
A door opened somewhere above them and they all stilled, but the steps that echoed through the stairwell were going up, not down.
"We'd better get him out of sight," Riley said gesturing at the dog.
"Yeah," Charlie called Kosacki back and he went, reluctantly leaving the scratching fingers behind him. "Would you…"
Riley seemed to read his mind. "I'll take him." She clipped the leash back on and Kosacki followed her willingly enough, leaving Charlie and Sarah alone in the stairwell.
I love your attention to Riley's character throughout your series. She isn't ever written as a main player (Lauren's clearly a stronger element than Riley is), but her characterization is layered and subtle and awesome. Riley's hyper-experience of fear and caution is definitely a survival mechanism, and although it leads to a lot of frustration when it ends up being paranoia (e.g. bus station), it clearly has served her well. She knows how to read between the lines and lay low when necessary. I love that you treat even minor characters from the show with respect and thoughtfulness.

I can't bear selectively quoting the conversation between Sarah and Charley on the stairs... So much remembered pain, love, and tenderness. So much confusion and hurt. SO. MANY. FEELINGSSSSS.
AUGGGGHHH. YOU DO THESE CHARACTERS RIGHT, BONES.
“I thought you were supposed to be staying away from me,” she pointed out, making no move to start the vehicle.
Cameron closed the door and buckled her seatbelt before glancing at the space between them. “I am currently twenty-two inches farther away from you than I want to be.” She met Sarah’s eyes with nothing but complete seriousness. “That is far enough.”
“Not far enough for me,” Sarah muttered.
“I know,” Cameron said softly. “But I cannot let you go alone into danger. Even if you don’t want me there.”

“You should not go alone.”
This chapter started with Sarah contemplating the need to return to how things were "before." And ^this^ is Cameron's answer.
I pretty much drowned in ♥♥♥♥s here
