Did anyone else notice Ellsbury's Fist of Metal after his catch in left field?

Woot.

Oh hell yeah. Though I've been informed that it's just the symbol for "two outs".

I don't care what they say. Fist of Metal from Ellsbury.

You'll often see baseball players do that....it's the way the remind themselves and each other that there are two outs in the inning and to act accordingly.

There are any number of incidents where they catch the ball and then put their heads down and run in, thinking the inning is over - meanwhile there are two outs and someone on base scores.

I can recall one from when I was a kid where the guy (I assume jokingly) said that they had since given him 3 sticks of gum each time he would head out into position and he was supposed to put one in his mouth for each out - when he was out of gum, THEN he could come back to the dugout.

Rawk.

Also important for making the right play later....if there are two outs then you don't need to worry about double plays, or getting ready to make a throw to get a tagging runner. You just get the easiest and most sure out you can.

We totally laughed at that. Even if it's a way to keep track of outs, you could do that with the first two fingers; instead, he chose to do the fist of metal.

Actually they do that to get more separation between the fingers so it's easier to see from far off as two distinct digits.

It had actually occurred to me that might be the case. It still looks amusing, though.

And apparently he was clever enough to not only claim one of the free tacos from Taco Bell, but to have someone there to take his picture.

Well played, Tacoby, well played.
