How to maintain the appearance of being hard-core

Step 1: Fail to trim your toenails before a long run.
Step 2: Fail to notice, or do anything about it if you do, when your nail cuts a hole in an adjacent toe halfway through said long run.
Step 3: Fail to sufficiently clean out the resulting blood-drenched shoe.
Step 4: When purchasing a new pair of shoes, do so after running a race in the rain wearing the old shoes, and wear the new shoes home without changing your socks.

Result: new shoes with a blood stain due to blood transfer from old shoe to socks to new shoe. Sigh. I was looking forward to having shoes that were clean. At least it's only a slight pink stain.

I ran the mother's day 5k and did a lot better than I'd expected. I haven't run hills in any of the 4 runs I've gone on since Juniper was born, and the first mile of the race was uphill. Yet I still managed a good pace, particularly for being so out of running shape. Results are here.

Yesterday I ran 6 miles, mostly flat, and survived. I still want to run a half marathon in the near future, and I'm eying a race in early June that involves chocolate. Unfortunately, it also involves trail running, which is not my favorite. Pretty, yes, but also challenging and great for twisting ankles. It may be moot, in any case, as early June is not far away, and going from 6 to 13 miles safely in that time will be a challenge.

I will still get some pictures of Juniper up, one of these days.
