Almost Famous - Cameron Crowe says he got Billy Crudup's line: "Well, yeah, on my better days, I am Russell from Stillwater," directly from John Cusack's response to a girl in a bar who asked, "Aren't you Lloyd Dobler?" (his character in Say Anything... (1989))

Billy Elliot - The ballet that Billy performs in in the final scene is Mathew Bourne's version of "Swan Lake" where all the Swans are played by men. Billy plays the part of the Swan, the same part he discusses with Mrs. Wilkinson earlier in the film.
Orange County - Jack Black is writer Mike White's next-door neighbor; his part in the movie was written specifically for him. Surprisingly little was improvised.
Dead Man on Campus - "Professor Durkheim" is presumably named after the French sociologist Emile Durkheim, who was the first academic to study suicide extensively.
Love Actually - When David arrives at No. 10 Downing Street, his tie changes 11 times between shots when meeting Natalie. Apparently, Hugh Grant had changed his tie after a post-lunch nap and no one noticed at first. They decided to "play with it" and went all out and changed the tie 11 times just for the heck of it.
This Is Spinal Tap - Nigel Tufnel's name is a joke on Eric Clapton, derived from "dull name" and "location in London". Eric became Nigel, and "Clapton Pond" became "Tufnell Park": Nigel Tufnel.
Clueless - Alicia Silverstone did not know how to correctly pronounce "Haitians" in the classroom scene. Amy Heckerling told the crew not to correct her because she liked it so much and wanted it to be in the film.
Dead of Night - Cosmolgists Fred Hoyle, Thomas Gold and Hermann Bondi, developed the Steady State theory of the universe, an alternative to the Big Bang, after seeing "Dead of Night". They said that the circular nature of the plot inspired the theory.
Now and Then - Rosie O'Donnell has stated that the character of Roberta was supposed to be a lesbian, but the film was later re-edited and she was made straight. The line, "Roberta lives in sin with her boyfriend." was looped in at the last minute.
10 Things I Hate About You - The original script was much darker to the one in the final film. In the original, Mandella (Kat's best friend) referred openly and frequently to several suicide attempts, which were for her to join with William Shakespeare.
