Waaayyy back in 2004 I wrote
a bit of a rant about the England cricket team being forced to tour Zimbabwe because, basically, Tony Blair decided to not decide anything and the whole thing descended into farce.
Skip forward to 2008. Gordon Brown is PM, none of us can afford petrol, food or get a mortgage and soon we'll be rid of identity fraud, not because of ID cards but because each of us will already have everyone else's data on a CD, which we've probably found on a train. It's OK, though, 'cos at least Gord can sort out the cricket!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/7471238.stm In many ways I'm pleased about this. It seems, finally, someone's done something right. However let's not forget what it took to make it happen. The escalation of violence, killings and eventual abandonment of any pretence at democracy brought about by a military junta scared that Mugabe might lose an electoral run-off. I'm sure that the US refusal to accept the result of any election will prove as fruitful as it did in Palestine.
Still, at least Bobs boys won't be able to play any fucking cricket in the UK (until the Twenty20 world cup, oh, whole *weeks* later). That'll fucking teach 'em!
