i am back from virginia! it was in the 90's and 100's most of the time i was there.
i still managed to get my mom to the gym twice (as good for me as for her, i think).
mostly i am none the worse for wear, although i did have a nasty allergic reaction to something
resulting in stuffiness and sore throats and my continuing to sound like i've been raising a small colony of mutant frogs in my throat. i've kinda been taking it easy, and am feeling a bit better today.
it was great to see my folks. it was great to see libbie and ceci and ben and missy. i didn't really get a chance to see anyone else this visit(although i did try with several people), but i will be back for xmas and maybe that will be a better time.
my parents bought a boat! it is a 28 foot bayliner. i think it will suit them very well. we didn't get to go out on it, but i like having a picture of what they are doing when they do go out. the new marina is going to take very good care of them. the boat itself has a nice big cabin and some luxuries they didn't have before. i wish it had a little bit more cockpit room (the cockpit is mostly used up by seating), but i don't think it will bother them.
it was also just good to see annapolis again. i feel a very strong connection there - go figure since my first time there i was 2 weeks old.
i finally got to see gran torino while i was home, which i really enjoyed. i'm not a huge clint eastwood fan, but i really liked this one. i have also finished reading house of spirits, by isabel allende. she makes me think of a lighter gabriel garcia marquez. there is something about her understated way of stating the fantastic that pleases me. i also enjoyed dragon keeper by robin hobb. it's about time i read that one, since it's been out a few months. i liked it better than dragon keeper and agree with the author that really it should have been one big book. i also feel like it needs a sequel.
as predicted, ross is running around like a maniac for the musical being teched in. a lot of the rehearsal time was canceled and scripts and scores and equipment were all unavailable til the last minute, so now the team is busting ass to prevent quality loss. i've gotten to see very little of him. he did get me in to see streetcar named desire last night though. i officially love tennessee williams. there is such truth in his writing. and so much nuance. the show was very moving, and i got to tell two of the actresses so, because they left the building the same time i did and were parked near me.
leto chewed through the tube from the water distiller to the upstairs again, so i had to take the t-connector to home depot and learn how to clear it for re-use yesterday. today i will coat the tube with hot sauce. we'll see how effective that is as a cat deterrent.
