I keep thinking of these awesome posts to say "Hi, I'm baaaaaack" but then I think ... meh! So instead, I'm posting this meme, out of

"Hey, Bones, ready to hit the road?"
"Sure."
He handed her into the passenger seat, and walked around the back checking that all the equipment was stowed safely before getting in the driver's side. Bones had laid her head back against the headrest, her eyes shut. The SUV roared to life and Booth pulled onto the gravel driveway that led away from the old barn. It would take about an hour to drive back to the lab, so he figured if Bones felt like it she could grab a bit of sleep on the way and he wouldn't disturb her. He stayed silent, glancing at her sideways after a few minutes, but he did a double take when he saw that her eyes were open and fixed on his face.
"Wha-at?" He asked her. She screwed up her nose a bit and shrugged her shoulders, still watching him. Her steady gaze began to unnerve him a little. What was coming? After a few more miles, she finally spoke,
"Booth, would you pull off the road up ahead in that clearing?" Booth looked at her sharply, trying to gauge her mood and guess what might be on her minefield of a mind. She wasn't giving anything away, but her eyes beseeched him to do as she asked. He checked the traffic in the rear view mirror, before beginning to slow.
"Sure Bones, but I thought you wanted to get back to the Jeffersonian ASAP?"
"I do, but I want you to pull over for a minute, if that's okay?" Without another word, he did as she asked, turning the engine off and twisting in the seat to look at her expectantly. To his shock, she placed her hand over his and squeezed gently, saying -
"Booth, I know this case is going to be hard for you as you are a parent and your son Parker will be on your mind all the time, and I wanted you to know that - " here she struggled for words, seeming unable to articulate her intentions. That little crease appeared between her brows, and she pulled a wry face before continuing, "Booth, you know I have difficulty with this sort of thing, but I just wanted you to know that I - " she stumbled on the words again, and fell back to repeating something he'd said to her several times "I'm here for you Booth, any time, any way I can help if you need it. That's all I wanted to say." She looked out of the side window and the silence between them was filled with crickets chirruping and distant traffic noise. He couldn't help the swell of emotion he felt when she said those words, and the warmth he felt spread over his face. She kept her face turned away from him and he wordlessly restarted the SUV, checked for traffic and pulled back out onto the road. When he found his voice again, he said
"I know Bones, I know you've got my back. Thanks for telling me though, it means a lot." He paused, giving her a sidelong look, grasping for something to relieve her obvious discomfort at the personal nature of her statement.
"Bo-ones ..." He asked with a spreading grin, " Are we having a moment?" Brennan looked at him gravely and responded,
"I don't know what that means." But a smile played on her lips as she put her head back on the headrest, closing her eyes. In a few moments she had relaxed and was dozing.

Are you going to meme (did I just make that a verb?) as well so I can get a chance to pick one of yours? :D

Well, by way of explanation, when I started this - my first ever fanfiction - I didn't have a clue where I was going with it, where it would be set, whodunnit, victim, method of ghastly death - nothing, zip, nada. Even the title came from a song a friend and I used to sing for a very silly reason, so the title bears no relation whatsoever to anything other than the chapter headings. I just knew I wanted to write about Booth and Brennan and try to capture a little bit of that chemistry that I loved. In fact that's where my LJ name came from: 2bbornot2bb. Would I write fanfiction that got them together (2bb), or in (earlier) canon and keep them apart (ornot2bb)? That was the question!
"Hey, Bones, ready to hit the road?" I sooo itched to get Brennan to actually hit the road somehow or other, or with something, but that was going too far. Wasn't it? I spent a lot of this story amusing myself writing rationally/logical/literal Brennanisms that I immediately deleted as being way too over the top. Maybe I should have kept some of them and published my outtakes!?
"Sure." No reaction from Brennan at such rabid colloquialisming you ask? I figured she must have heard Booth use that expression before and she's not actuallya twit.
He handed her into the passenger seat (ah, gallantry is never dead when SA Seeley Booth is around), and walked around the back checking that all the equipment was stowed safely (he's so perfect. Sigh) before getting in the driver's side. Bones had laid her head back against the headrest, her eyes shut (it'd been a long day and gawd only knew what I was going to get them to do next. I certainly didn't). The SUV roared (get it? RAWR - 'I love you' in dinosaur - I'm such a dork. Booth's SUV often roars in my stories) to life and Booth pulled onto the gravel driveway that led away from the old barn. It would take about an hour to drive back to the lab (seriously - do you know how long I spent on the internet trying to find a suitable place that was about an hour's drive from "the Jeff" and would work in this story? Sheesh - TravelMath still sends me a card on my birthday and they've even liked me on Facebook!), so he figured if Bones felt like it she could grab a bit of sleep (awww) on the way and he wouldn't disturb her (disturb her no, stare at her breasts/lips/legs, yes). He stayed silent, glancing at her sideways after a few minutes (see what I mean? he can't help himself!), but he did a double take when he saw that her eyes were open and fixed on his face.
"Wha-at?" He asked her. She screwed up her nose a bit and shrugged her shoulders, still watching him. Her steady gaze began to unnerve him a little. What was coming? After a few more miles, she finally spoke,
"Booth, would you pull off the road up ahead in that clearing?" Booth looked at her sharply, trying to gauge her mood and guess what might be on her minefield of a mind (Good grief was she gonna rip of her clothes and jump on his bones??? Be thou calm, gentle reader. I was staying in canon). She wasn't giving anything away, but her eyes beseeched him to do as she asked. He checked the traffic in the rear view mirror, before beginning to slow. (I hope everybody got that there was plenty of eye sex happening here.)

"Booth, I know this case is going to be hard for you as you are a parent and your son Parker will be on your mind all the time, and I wanted you to know that - " (Eeuuw - please forgive me - this sounds so clunky now, but I was just a newbie and I knew not what I was doing!) here she struggled for words (as, apparently, did I), seeming unable to articulate (one of my favourite words. I even named my - now defunct - business that; "Articulate Crafts") her intentions. That little crease appeared between her brows (she's such a cutie pie, isn't she?), and she pulled a wry face before continuing, "Booth, you know I have difficulty with this sort of thing, but I just wanted you to know that I - " she stumbled on the words again, and fell back to repeating something he'd said to her several times (See? She does listen - and is perfectly capable of learning colloquialisms!) "I'm here for you Booth, any time, any way I can help if you need it. That's all I wanted to say." She looked out of the side window and the silence between them was filled with crickets chirruping and distant traffic noise. He couldn't help the swell of (get your mind out of the gutter) emotion he felt when she said those words, and the warmth he felt spread (stop it) over his face. She kept her face turned away from him and he wordlessly (because words failed us both) restarted the SUV, checked for traffic and pulled back out onto the road. (Should've put a paragraph here) When he found his voice again, he said
"I know Bones, I know you've got my back.

I actually still thank those last couple of lines are pretty cute. Did Booth actually say that at some stage in canon??
Anyway, I haven't yet written another case fic, (blame cathmarchr for enticing me to the dark smutty side of fic!) even though I've had one on the go for ages. I promised myself that I wouldn't publish until I at least had some idea of where I was going with it and had sketched out the plot etc, but I haven't taken it very far at all. To be honest, I had such an enormous amount of fun writing 'Mississippi', even though it was mostly done by the seat of my pants, with many a late night spent hunched over a blurry Google screen researching, flying off on tangents, letting myself dragged along with the story, flying completely blind, and every spare minute I had was taken up with it!! Maybe that's the way I should be writing after all!?

Yes, I found the "Are we having a moment?" line super-cute, and it seems to me I've heard it somewhere, although I'm not sure Booth ever said it (or even if I heard it on "Bones"). Anyway, it fits perfectly here!
You know I'm going to pester you about writing that other case fic now, right? *nudges*

I've got a few chapters of another case fic down in rough draft - but limited spare time these days :( They really do chew up time with all the research!
