Supernatural 5x20

Okay, so I finally got a chance to watch The Devil You Know, and I have some thoughts.

1. WHY NO CAS?!?  He is a regular this season, no?  I feel like there was a serious need for Cas in this episode.  What with Crowley appearing and dissappearing, I kept wanting Sam and Dean to be reminded of, you know, that other guy they know who does the same thing.  I especially expected him to come into play once Dean ran off with Crowley, leaving Sam behind in the old abandoned house.  I'm all for Sam calling Bobby, because I love Bobby too, but why isn't he calling his new bff Cas?  "Hi Cas.  I don't know where you are right now after you banished yourself a few episodes ago, but Dean's gone off with a demon and I'm feeling sort of conflicted about it.  Bring booze and let's talk about it."  I mean, would that have been too much to ask??

That said...

2. I LOVE CROWLEY LIKE WHOA!!  I enjoyed Meg version 1.0 as well as Ruby 1.0, but omg how much do I love Crowley??  Sooo much.  He is a demon I wouldn't mind sticking around for a while.  "Lovers in league against Satan," I think just may be my favorite quote of the entire episode, followed closely by, "Hello, darling."  DEAR GOD I LOVE HIM.  He said they shared a torrid passion, people!!!  My love for him is a pure, pure thing.  And I want to see him and Cas in the same room, talking, and possibly drinking a lot of alcohol.

3.  When Crowley said he knew about the rings, I just assumed he and Gabriel were bff's and planned the whole thing.  I was actually pretty disappointed that he ended up knowing about the plan from a magic coin.  In my head, he and Gabriel planned the whole thing.  Speaking of which...

4. Gabriel/Crowley is now my fake otp of the show.  They are both totally sarcastic, but are both secretly are trying to save the world becuse they love it and each other so much.  Their relationship would be like Good Omens, but with more sarcasm and snark.  I really want to read this now.  Someone write it, okay??

5.  Sam, don't think you can trick Lucifer.  You can't, and I don't want to see you try.  That is all I have to say about that.

6. Bobby, don't sell your soul to Crowley for two reasons.  Reason one: I do not want to see Bobby and Crowley kiss on my television screen.  Reason two: Selling your soul to Crowley would be a very, very bad idea.  I do not think he will give the soul back.  And would Bobby then be doomed to hell, even if he did give Bobby's soul back?  I don't like this plan.

7. Retcon!  I don't know how other people feel about the whole Jess retcon, but I sort of enjoyed it.  Whitney (I'm totally calling him Whitney btw) seemed like a relatively innocuous retcon to do, and it brought back the YED, who I sort of miss.  I like the idea that the YED's plans for Sam didn't begin with the fire in his nursery, and then jump to the fire with Jess.  I like the idea that the YED was following Sam, nurturing him, and putting people in his path to help him make certain choices.  Sam was his favorite.  It makes sense that he would have put in a bit more of an effort where Sam was concerned.  So I'm just going to go with it.

8. When Sam killed Whitney at the end of the episode, I just wanted him to get on with it.  The demon started monologuing, and really, Sam, just kill him.  We know you want to, we know you're going to.  Stop letting him mess with your head any more than he already has.

Overall, this episode seemed like a step in the right direction (because YAY CROWLEY) but very disjointed from the past episode.  Also, where is Cas??  I want him back!  He can't stay banished forever?  Can he?  Can he???  Whatever, I'm still excited about next week because I maintain that Show has a plan again, what with the two rings, and the mission to lock Lucifer away again.

Thought: Does Kali still have Sam and Dean's blood?  And if so, will this blood get used in future episodes?  Because I hope so.
