Closet Challange - Attempt 1

Aug 25, 2011 11:33

Despite my TA frustrations, (and the year hasn't even begun yet, ah!) I can still dress to feel and look calm, collected, and chipper today.

Whenever I made a big goodwill purge I always put a couple things aside as maybes - they get removed from my general closet, but not yet donated. Then a few months later I go back and see if I even missed these things. If I didn't, I feel a lot better about donating them. But every year, even though I didn't miss it, and never wear it, I can't seem to let go of this one floral shirt. I bought it in middle school I think, aka over a decade ago! I didn't even wear it super frequently back then, but I remember wearing it picking wildflowers on a trip to Colorado, and wearing it at the zoo with my family on another vacation. It reminds me of carefree summertime.

And I still love it - the peasanty idea of it, the colors, the neckline, the pattern, the buttons on the back, etc. The problem is it was kinda too short on me then and it's really too short on me now that I have boobs and the 90s midriff length is over. Yesterday, while taking stock of my maybe pile, I challenged myself to see if I could even find any way to wear this top. If I could come up with a few different outfits I could see myself actually wearing this with in public, I could keep it. If not, it's really time to let go. Here's attempt #1.

Floral "Maybe Pile" top - Old Navy, circa 1999?
Tan Pencil skirt - H&M
Tan pierced belt - Target
Gold Sandals - Report, via DSW
Straw Earrings - Gift from Ashley from the Marshall Islands
Purple loop earrings - Claire's, also from my middle school days!

So what do you think? Is this cute/appropriate? Can I pull it off a decade down the road? Also, in reference to the third photo, I kind of love the way the belt makes it frill out on the bottom, but is it silly looking?
I should really find another place to stand while taking pictures. My feet are always in the dark. Also, I don't iron, so this skirt is wrinkled. It was gonna get wrinkly anyway sitting at my desk working all day.

In case you want to inspect the pattern and color palate that I find so darling and has kept this shirt in my drawer all these years, here's a closeup. Also, I need a haircut. I hacked my hair shortish (for me) last summer after the honeymoon, and so I've been just getting it trimmed and growing it long again, but now it's way too long, don't you think? I need some layers too.

Hm, better walk the dog, eat some lunch, and get to the office - there's a busy Thursday ahead!
