Back from the weekend away in Bettendorf! I'm currently editing the few photos I took during that very relaxing weekend we spent swimming in pools, eating way too much, hanging out with the Bolands, reuniting with friends, and celebrating our one year anniversary! We drove back yesterday afternoon only to celebrate the 4th of July downtown at Gateway park to see the fireworks with a random collection of fun people - Me, Casey, Ben, Shannon, Shannon's Brother, Katie, Julia, Shaun, and Julia's Uncle John. It's been a busy few days.
The highlights however, were the following:
~Not sucking at the game where you throw the bags in the boards with the holes at Casey's pool, very fun
~Watching our wedding video for the first time on our one year anniversary
~Catching up with friends at Old Chicago
~Whitey's Ice Cream! Mmmm Caramel Cone.
~Casey's mom's food
~Seeing Charlie and Newman play
~Bryce's family's 4th of July party
~Fashion show with Julia!!!!!
Omg. That last one has a great story. I wish I had a dozen photos to go with this story actually, so you'd understand the hilarity. I haven't laughed as hard as I did that night in a long time. So Bryce's mom had somehow gotten ahold of some old lady's vintage dresses, and she wanted Julia (and then me too when I arrived for their 4th of July party) to try them on and take some home. Sounded like it'd be an interesting spectacle, and hey, maybe I'd get a cool vintage dress out of it! I couldn't quite understand Julia's discomfort with this plan. Well, turns out Julia's skepticism and hesitation were well founded. These dresses weren't so much "cool" and "vintage" as they were old, ridiculous, and generally ugly. Omg. But ugly in the most hilarious ways. We struggled to attire ourselves in these crazy get-ups to appease Mary Jo (which I believe we did) and just about died laughing at these dresses, which were like, not cute 50s pinup vintage dresses, but more like frumpy polyester house dresses with giant bow-patterened fabric and extra room for shoulder pads. We could not have looked more absurd. The problem was that from a distance, with our hair down, Casey and Bryce did not notice the lame patterns, the smelly strange synthetic fabrics, or the awkward roomy shoulders. All they saw were the redeeming feature - the tiny, fitted, natural-waisted silhouettes which were, as a whole, extremely flattering. (The exception being the guacamole green one that had buttons on the side that I couldn't even close. Maybe Julia could have, but the pattern and the fringed shoulders forbade us from subjecting another soul to that dress.) Anyway, in the end, the funniest one this teal and pink floral number. It was mid-shin lenghth (sexy), zipped up the front, and made out of polyester imitating seersucker that smelled like old lady. It was straight up ugly 40s house dress. We all cracked up and I had to have it. I'm going to pick my sister up at the airport wearing it - she'll pee her pants. I can't wait! I'd post a photo, but I don't want her to see it on my picasa ahead of time. I also grabbed a green dress that may have potential, but I took it mostly to be nice. Julia did you end up taking the bow dress to be nice as well? Or did you not want the old lady smell to contaminate your suitcase?
Anyway, ugly dresses aside, here's some photos from the weekend.
