I haven't had internet in my apartment since Saturday. ARG Charter. They're finally coming tomorrow to fix it. It's amazing though how much extra time there can be in a day when you can't go online.
Speaking of extra time, today was my last day of waking up and having nothing I really needed to do all day. I <3 Summer, and since my advisor meeting went so well on Friday (he didn't even ASK if I'd read anything all summer, he just wanted to know how I liked Spain and was glad I used my Spanish and worked at the VFL! Score! I was satisfyingly productive after all) I've been completely guilt free about being lazy this week before school starts again. Casey and I have been relaxing, walking our dog a lot, getting random things done, cleaning, napping, cooking, and playing much Oregon Trail. :-)
Side note about Oregon Trail II: Sadly enough, the game is NOT as hard as we remembered it as a child, and we just got all the way to Oregon in one quick sitting with absolutely no health/environmental/food problems whatsoever. Darn adult smarts! We're gonna have to play with the lowest amount of money/skills next time, bring a bunch of kids and old people in our party, and pack like, NO supplies and have to barter for everything just to make things interesting.
We finished Buffy the other day. We've been slowly slowly watching all the episodes in order since like, our first Christmas together when he bought me season 1 as a present (I actually got him Firefly that year - good TV holiday). And, surprisingly enough for a Buffy fan, I had never seen the last episode. I taped it when it aired, and never could bring myself to watch it, because if I watched it, then it would really be over...
Anyway, I loved the ending and was VERY satisfied, though characters do die and the ones that do broke my heart. Anyway, it was a fun accomplishment to get through the series with Casey, and I'm very glad to own all the seasons.
In other news, I changed my name! At Social Security and at SLU anyway. So far, painless and easy. I had to visit like 5 different offices at SLU, but each place I went there was no line, and the person helped me right away, and I got done what I needed in like less than 2 minutes. The longest thing was getting my new ID card printed - I think that took maybe like 3 minutes. Easy, but def. a lot of hiking around campus on a hot hot day. Glad I got it done before school started. Now I can change my Driver's License and credit cards whenever I get to it.
I had lunch with Will Nenadal today! It was great - we tried out a new restaurant called Pi Pizzeria that I've never been to, which was great, and I got to hear about his thesis and finishing grad school and his new job and moving and his novel and stuff. I'm really glad to see that after a few years since Cornell, even though we've never been super close, we can still hang out and chat with zero awkwardness. That's not true for everyone - I had lunch with another unnamed Cornell grad last year, and it was awkward as hell, which was surprising. Anyway, it was very fun and I'm glad he's doing well.
PS Julia, James Bond says hello!
I also got a haircut today. I love it. At first I was kind of worried about it, because it's not long enough to be long, but it's not short enough to be like a bob or a short do, it's kind of oddly inbetween, coming JUUST past my shoulders, but it feels fresh and I am really enjoying the post-wedding lack of length. Plus the layers were done really well. I really enjoy the way it was styled and wish I weren't so lazy and could do this myself. Oh well! Can't wait to see how it looks wavy later.
Also, just so you know, I love my dog. He's great.
