Hey all, glad to hear that the practice of reading LJ has not been abandoned! ;-)
Anyway, last week of summer before TA meetings and advisor meetings and orientations etc begin again. At least I'm a PhD student this time! (Oh no that's actually a bad thing because it means they expect more of me now...)
Yesterday I spent most of the evening working on my conference paper. I need to get it from 23 to 15 pages to submit, and then down another 5 to present. Yikes. But I'm just worrying about the first cut right now. I'm already down to 17 pages after my edit last night. It is a better paper than I remember - or at least the first half is. That's always a nice discovery.
God I hope they let me present; my registration was late and I'm really nervous about that. Wish they'd email me back already! Luckily it's Boulder - if anyone's cool with a late reg. it will be that laid back town, I'm hoping.
Yesterday I braved Social Security with Casey, and got my name change application in. I was quite surprised at how little documentation they needed. I expected them to need my license, my passport, several copies of my birth certificate, my marriage license, my social security card, my fingerprints, my DNA... you know, like the DMV. But they just needed my drivers license and the marriage license, and I was good to go. Easy Peasy, after I figured out their very unclear form and instructions. Then I just gotta go through the hassle of changing my name with SLU, bank, credit cards, passport, license, insurance, bleck. That part shouldn't be too bad though.
Okay, back to work on the paper. Can't spend the WHOLE morning watching Buffy with Casey! (We're almost through season 7 - now what will we do?!)
