Weekend update (quick cause I should be paper-ing)

Apr 30, 2007 12:02

Friday night: Paper. I only got done with about half the stuff I wanted to be done with by friday night. Then I went to Casey's with Bryce and Julia and worked some more.

Saturday: Woke up, showered, ate granola, worked on paper - organizing research notes, which I wanted to have done on Friday - until it was time to go meet Casey's parents (an Riley and Katie) for dinner. We went to the Amana Colonies for dinner which turned out to be quite an adventure. Ah Community of True Inspiration - Not Amish. We had to wait a long time for dinner, and eventually Casey and I decided to get menus to look at while we waited which of course made us get our table right then. We ended up doing family style dinner with beef, ham, and fried chicken, and we ate til we were stuffed. There was also a lot of cole slaw and saurkraut cause it was very German there. That night we got back and I worked more until 3am. Casey was nice and helped me get it done.

Sunday: after a stressful morning we got back so I could go to the Mortar Board Induction. It was kind of pointless and Cody pronounced my name wrong (and everyone else's), but my Grandma & Grandpa and Grammie & Papa were all there, so that was really nice. Then there was a little picnic/punch thing and I had to go get changed for the choir concert! I was sad Casey couldn't be there, but with all my grandparents there and my MOM too (yay!) it was a really good time. My sickness held off until after the concert thankfully, and then my allergies went Crazy and I had a fantastic headache and stuffiness, which has only gotten worse since then despite my best efforts to control it. The concert went well I think - very fun, especially Kyrie and Cindy were very energetic. Flanders was errie and Cuore was beautiful. I don't think Give me Jesus was as wonderful as she wanted, but it was really pretty I thought. But the best part of the concert was the compliment I got from Lisa Hearne. She so rarely gives compliments and I thought she disliked me! But before we went onstage she said to me something along the lines of "Amy, just so you know you've got the best face up there. Whenever I'm feeling discouraged about a song I just look over at you and it gives me energy." I will live on that compliment for the rest of my singing days.
After the concert I went out to a LONG dinner at the Iowa River Powerhouse with my mom and grandparents. We talked about family and stuff - DB is ridiculous. He's felt really sick recently and the conversation went like:
Mom: "well DB I bet its your allergies."
DB: "What would I be allergic to here?!"
Mom: "Doesn't your campus have a lot of flowering trees? Aren't there a lot of cherry blossoms and magnolia trees?"
DB: "I don't know... are they pink?"
Duh DB - the campus is covered with pink trees and you're allergic to flowering pollen. Think you could have put that one together. Oh god we laughed so hard. But yeah salmon - yummy. In the evening I went over to the hotel to be with my mom and use the amazing shower and the huge desk and sleep in pollen free air-conditioning. Plus I got to chat with my mom and get a good night's sleep and organize my whole paper.
