Julius wandered around the villa while munching on a cucumber. Octavian brought a whole barrel full just for him. Julius sighed happily. He waved to some servants as he walked by them. They waved back and smiled. Julius liked it when people were nice to him. So many hadn’t been. He frowned and rubbed his stomach.
“I wonder,” he said aloud. “I wonder why people are so against this? If it was good enough for the founders, it should be good enough for the Emperor and his son.”
“Talking to yourself again?” asked Octavian from behind him.
“No, silly. I’m talking to the baby.” Julius turned to grin at Octavian. “The healers said it was a good idea.”
Octavian hugged his young lover. “Hmm. Perhaps I should speak to our child as well.”
Julius beamed. “That would be wonderful. Come along. I was just going to get more cucumbers. Now I can lay and eat and you can talk to the baby.”
“Whatever you wish, Julius.”
