“What makes a person such a monster?”
“Which one?” Jack asked as he pushed around chicken lo mein with his chopsticks.
“All of them,” Abbie clarified as she stirred her egg drop soup, “Between the husbands who kill their wives, mothers who kill their children, and serial killers who target anyone that takes their fancy, all I see is a world full of monsters.”
“The world isn’t all bad, Abbie. Besides, you’re way too young to be this cynical,” He pointed at her with his chopsticks, “You should still have some optimism.”
"Optimism?" She snorted, "That went out the window about the time the girl killed her sister for a ring from Tiffany's."
"Okay, that was one bad situation," Jack agreed, "But there have been good things that have happened."
"Name one," She challenged him with an arched eyebrow.
"Okay, that's a little hard to do."
"See, the world is full of monsters," Abbie declared as she dropped her spoon on the desk and pushed away. She walked across the room to retrieve a bottle of water from the small refrigerator in her office.
"So what are you going to do now?" He watched her carefully, "Quit the D.A.'s office and start working pro-bono for Save the Whales."
"Of course not," She stood taller, "I'm going to prosecute all of the monsters of the world and send them all straight to hell."
"That's my girl," Jack chuckled as he sat back, knowing that Abbie was one person that could slay any monster she faced and continue to fight the good fight.
