SEATTLE - Hundreds of people took part in the annual “Memory Walk” at Seattle’s Magnuson Park on Sunday. Friends, families and companies formed teams to walk the 3-mile route.
The walk is more than a way to raise money for fighting Alzheimer’s disease. It also raises the spirits of people who've been touched by the neurological disease.
Seattle native Jean Smart was among those who joined in. A few years back, the Emmy-winning actress lost her father to Alzheimer’s. She said she misses him every day.
"It's not something that's going away until we really do something about it,” she said. “It's growing unfortunately because of the baby boomer generation is getting older. We have to do something about it for selfish reasons if nothing else. But we have to do it to keep other people from suffering from what we've gone through.”
Sunday’s walk raised $228,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
