Last night was the interviews for the fraternity I will be pledging. Everything overall went well, and the majority of people got a bid (were allowed to pledge), including myself. The interview was surprising, but at the same time, I saw the style of it coming. Beforehand it was supposedly wide open as to what they would and could possibly ask, so everyone was frantically reviewing notes and going over any possible questions. I won't go into details, but I can generalize. They basically asked about the biggest issues you as an individual would have joining, and they did a pretty good job reading everyone through their application, so they were quick to jump to the heavier issues. Not that it was a bad thing, just that it sort of caught a few people off guard. Not that those questions were bad... just... interesting how they went about doing it.
Anyway, like I said, we all did fairly well, and 9 out of 11 were given bids. I'm definitely hyped up for the whole process, but I still have a few questions about how the whole "social probation" bit will work out. I'm a bti of a social chameleon myself, so it will be a bit of a challege to isolate myself for 8-10 weeks from all but that specific group. I know I will have the rest of the line there for me however, so there is no fear. I'm not saying I'm going to push the line of social / business meetings, but there are several off-campus people I feel I will remain in contact with for business reasons, even though they are friends of mine. I need to finish up a car with spencer, as well as work out a deal on another. I have yet to sit down with Goose and work out the details of the financial packet for the restaurant. I still need to speak with Brian about a few other possibilities in my automotive business. All in all, I will loose a little contact with some people, but I will still be able to wrap up the business needs I have.
***For those who don't know, social probation is just that... not supposed to speak / have communication with anyone for any social reason outside of the line (group that is pledging). Any communication not involving them must be for immidiate family, business, or otherwise professional reasons only (work/job related). Not ditching out on you guys at all... this is just something that I do want to commit myself to over the next couple months. I am going to attempt to keep this journal a bit more active just some I am not ignoring the lot of you for that time period, but I guess this is just a request to let me do my thing for the next couple weeks, so no ill-feeling intended if I don't see / speak to some of you for a bit. Yes, myspace / facebook / possibly AIM will be off limits for some time. All I guess I can do is ask you to wish me luck.***
That being said, I am going into this with an open mind. I know things will work out if I dedicate myself, and I know I can do that, so I'm not worried. We'll see how everything else works out as things come along... all in due time. Social probation doesn't begin until we go "on-line", which as stated last night will not begin for at least two weeks. The exact moment it begins will not be told to us however, so if I drop off the face of the planet suddenly, I apologize. Bookmark the journal and look for updates if you would like, and beyond that, I hope to get in touch with anyone I have missed at least once in the next two weeks-
