AWKWARD: The End of the Federalists

Jan 29, 2008 20:06

Yeah, so while I was studying for my U.S. History AP midterm, I laughed out loud after reading that whole bit with the Hartford Convention.  Basically, a whole bunch of New England Federalists were pissed because even though they opposed the War of 1812, the Congress went along with it.  They met up in Hartford, talked about it, thought about seceding, decided not to, and wrote an angry letter.  When the delegates went to Washington D.C. to present their case, they stumbled onto a celebration.  The War of 1812 was over - Andrew Jackson kicked ass - they were too late.  They ended up leaving before anyone saw them ("slipped quietly out of town").

Ch'yea, ohkae.  I was like - HAH.  Sissies.

ETA: Dad got all defensive and stuff when I mentioned not wanting to study anymore.  It's my choice, he says.  Just because I don't want to study DOES NOT mean that I'm not going to.  Because I will.  Way to not know anything about me/ expect anything from me, parental units.
