Dreams and the band.

There is somethign that I've been thinking about lately and it involves dreams (as in what you have when you sleep) and the band.

First off, know that I'm a believer in dreams having meaning. For instance, dreams about something bad happening to one's teeth usually means you are fearing something. I'm also a believer that dreams are God's way of telling us something. This is one of those examples.

For many, many years I would have a dream, usually 2 or more times a year, where I would still be going to highschool. It is very, very close to the end of my senior year. However, I don't realize it until just then taht there is one class that I had that I actually never been to or a report I never started and therefor would recieve an incomplete and thus have never actually graduated. I always knew that the dream was telling me taht there was some task out there that I never completed. Something left unfinished. For the longest time I thought it had to do with the fact that, had it not been for a teacher doing me a big favor, I would have indeed had an incomplete in my World Cultures class. But I was wrong. I belive I now know what was being told to me.

See, I haven't had that dream since (finally) being in a band. Not once. Although we've been a five-piece for 9 months, Matt, Chad and I have been playing together for a little over a year. During that whole time I never had the dream that used to come to me at least two times a year.

I believe that what the dream has been telling me is that there indeed is somethign that I started a long time ago, when I was in high school, that I never finished. You see, when I was in high school I started playing guitar...poorly. I never truely learned how to play. I wanted to run before I could craw. But I'll get to that in a future post. Anyways, I wanted to be in a band with my friends but it never came to be. Once I went into the navy I pretty much gave up that dream. Fast forward to last year. All of a sudden I'm playing bass guitar in a band even though just months prior I was looking to sell my bass because I never played it or even bothered to truely learn how to play it. That was the unfinished thing, being in a band. I honestly would have never thought that the dream was telling me that. And let me tell you, I LOVE playing. I'm learning on how to be a better bass player, I've played gigs (opening, anyway), and I love playing to a crowd.

Funny how dreams work.
