Reccer's comments: With sparse but beautiful language, “make the sky sing” gives us a potential backstory for Joan, one which includes an immense appreciation for opera. We get to know Joan through her interests in opera over the years, from her relationship with her stepfather (just called her father in this fic, which was written before we knew more about the Watson family dynamics), to the breakdown between her and Liam, to her ongoing relationship with Holmes. You don’t need to be knowledgeable about opera to appreciate this story- ultimately, this is all about Joan. It includes a section that has since been Jossed, but that same section includes one of my favourite little revelations about who, exactly, Joan is, and the bit that is Jossed doesn’t make the entire story fall apart. Overall, this is one of my favourite stories in the Elementary fandom, and has a final line that will make your heart ache.
