It pairs Ms Hudson with Clyde, another being drawn into Holmes's home. It fits the new character of Ms Hudson into the universe and into a new spot of warmth and security for her, with these two people who offered a refuge, employment, and a place in their lives. She's calmly, caringly competent. I like the detail that she lifts the heavy terrarium easily. It's the first story I've seen featuring this character, and I hope we'll see more (don't know if the show will bring her back often, and I hope it's more than stunt casting; I cautiously trust the writers).
