Reccer's comments: Spoilers for 2.01. Thing is, I came out of ASiB feeling more interested in Irene and John's dynamics than in Irene and Sherlock's. This picks up on a single line in the episode - Irene's casual remark that John has warned her Sherlock sometimes talks to him when he isn't there - and spins it into a thoughtful little study of their relationships, of the ways they all see one another. It's told from Irene's POV, and the perspective it gives us of John is really interesting: there's a focus on his being a man of emotion, while jealous of her mind, but it's the little details, the pauses when he talks, the small movements he makes, the unsaid words, that Irene remarks upon in her careful assessment of him. They keep misunderstanding and misleading one another, and the result is a very delicate, very intelligently written scene.
