Season 3

Hey all,

being one of the gazillions of people who are impatiently waiting for more Sherlock, I can't stop pondering how the next season is going to start (or should I say take off ?).
There are so many possible scenarios that I'd love to know what other fans think, so I'd like to put the topic up for discussion, please feel free to join in!

I have put up a poll on my profile on ff.net regarding John's reaction upon learning that Sherlock's alive; admittedly, only a few people have voted so far, but the majority seems to expect John landing a punch in Sherlock's face, which isn't so inconceivable.

However, Moffat and Gatiss are very likely not going for the too obvious, so maybe the beginning of episode 7 is going to be completely different- raising the question at what time the plot will be set at all. In the book, Sherlock is away for three years, but one has to consider that nowadays both travelling and acquiring/transferring data is a lot easier and faster, of course, therefore he might not need as long.

Further questions which have come up are:
- Does Mycroft know the truth, and if he does, is Sherlock accepting any help from him?
- How long will Sherlock keep up the pretence?
- What happens when Lestrade finds out Sherlock hasn't abducted the two children (as they are bound to give testimony one day)?
- Will Sherlock be able to destroy Moriarty´s web or does he need help (in the form of John)?
- Depending on how long Sherlock has been gone, is John still single/unmarried?
- What happened to the flat in Baker Street?

Possible scenarios I've been going over in my mind:
- One day, John comes home late (assuming he's living alone) and Sherlock is waiting for him in his flat. (Somehow, this one seems rather uneventful, but would of course offer a good opportunity for some punches at one point...)
- Mycroft contacts John about his brother because they need his help in some form. Or because he thinks Sherlock is dying.
- First scene shows a hospital room somewhere, possibly godforsaken, and the staff is caring for a "John Doe" of unknown origin, who is currently unconscious but looks rather familiar to the doting viewers...
- Sherlock reveals himself to Lestrade before he contacts anyone else.

So what do you think?
