Watching the sunrise was difficult enough considering how tired he'd been after the events of the days only just recently having ended... but it was worth it when he awoke to the sounds of 5 slipping down off of the shelf to sneak out to watch the sun.
He's always so obvious, 9 thought with a smile, climbing down to join him.
As he stepped outside and as the sun peaking out over the horizon, he sighed. It was good to know they were safe... even if the world was still a barren, dusty place. It would get better. He knew it would.
They'd infused the planet with life once more. That, and the hideous clouds of dust were slowly beginning to move on. It had taken a miracle...
He and his friends had been that miracle.
He approached 5 quietly, then patted his shoulder.
5 jumped at first, still panicky and easily-startled at heart, but then he caught sight of 9 and smiled softly.
"Hey," he said back, putting his hand on top of 9's. He wanted to say something about how amazing and brave and smart 9 had been. He wanted to thank him... But the words died in his mouth, so instead he grabbed 9 in a hug.
"This world. It can only get better, 5. Thanks to you and the others." he smiled, looking into his friend's lens. "Remember, I'm here if you need to talk, okay?"
"5, stop... I'm not a hero. I just did for 2 what he would have done for us... And to be honest, I didn't do that great a job, considering. I just hope I've made amends at this point. I miss them." 9 admitted softly, looking toward the rising sun.
The world looked so big, so intriguing. He wanted to explore it.
"Oh... Right." But no matter what 9 said, he would always be a hero to 5. Always. He looked down at the mention of 2, though, and nodded. "I miss them, too."
"I'm sorry. I know you and 2 were very close." 9 says quietly, still holding a lot of guilt in his heart for what he'd done to 2. He still remembers 5's desperation, begging him to explain why he'd activated the machine...
9 looked to his friend, then sighed, smiling. "No, it's nothing. It's fine now. We have this new world to explore and to help to grow again. This is a time to be happy."
