The harrowing saga of thirty minutes

Jan 16, 2007 22:20

Time slipped into a glass of cabernet sauvignon, dribbled in iCal files and sleepy attempts to export them. I booted up quickly, dripping muddy water into my abandoned slipper. A shuffling run thru the snow to the bus stop, where a fellow homo asked if this was the busstop for the #2. "Will this connect to the #5?" Not knowing the #5, I pointed ( Read more... )

I take it you're back home again (not much snow in Texas from what I can tell). Don't you just love taking the bus?! It's, like, my favorite thing in the world! (Can you feel the sarcasm? Just checking.) At least I've no snow to contend with, but I feel your pain, love.

By and large, the buses are my friends. I'm just not so smart about them...

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised that Hawaii has buses. I imagine there's not enough road...

Ha ha ha. . . not enough road! I'll have you know Honolulu is the fourth largest city in the US! Honestly I was shocked when I came here. I was imagining palm trees swaying on deserted beaches but I landed in a sprawling urban jungle. Downtown Honolulu looks a bit like Boston, a bit like Portland, but mostly (I've heard) like Miami. If you want some idea how big this city is, mapquest "Honolulu, HI" and then start backing out. Honolulu runs from just west of the airport all the way around Diamond Head. It's just crazy big. And the newspaper claims we have an award winning public transit system ( www.thebus.org ). I take the #4 from Wilder & Punahou all the way into Waikiki. If you're bored, you can see how I get to work.

It took me a little while 21st_medici January 18 2007, 07:12:43 UTC
But I now have a sense of the size of that city. Man. I'm starting to get the same sense of this Midwestern Metro Area.

Your bus route looks short enough, but long enough to read. My favorite. Do you see the golf course on your way home? Do you take it furter down to the zoo very often?
