"This is the only book you'll need," he said, rummaging through his plastic back for a well-worn King James edition of The Holy Bible.
"I've heard of it."
"It has all the answers you'll need."
I pause, look up from my new book.
"It's a complicated book..."
"Oh, no it isn't."

He paused a few beats.
"Well, I can't agree with that."
He let me read my book for a while, after that.
