I heartily encourage you to watch this entertaining "Destroy GAP to Save It" commercial. It's a .mov, so I guess you need a Quicktime plugin.
This Slate article led me to it, and has a few things to say. One thing it doesn't mention, though, is the pure rage that it depicts. These people are destroying GAP and everything it stands for. One man spies the quintessential mannequin, wearing the blue & the khaki. He tackles it and tears his teeth into it, like a hyena eviscerating a wildebeest. It's an orgy of destruction.
It's the same rage-at-mainstream-perfect that made America hate pre-prison Martha Stewart. I can understand perfectly why GAP didn't want this malevolence unleashed.
