Wheeeeee

This was an amazing Thanksgiving. We awoke late, brunched on a marvelous concoction of eggs, potatoes, bacon & cheese (baked 45 minutes in a pie dish), smoked a-plenty, then meandered to the Loring Pasta Bar for dinner. This was a very good choice, for Thanksgiving. We arrived at 4:30 -- 30 minutes before the place was to be opened to the public -- and asked if we could sit inside and warm ourselves. We could! (it was a very cold bike ride there)

At 5, the owner invited us to sit at the bar, where a gorgeous bartender (named "Adam") served us. Everything was free, he said, so I asked for something hot. He was having warmed cognac, so I had that as well. Wow. Powerfully alcoholic -- it nearly sizzled my nosehairs. Wonderful. Jesse had some wine -- the first of many glasses, for the both of us.

We sat at a small round table but, at the more-than-gentle urging of the waitress, we sat at the long table in the middle of the room. There we met Christina, her hubby Chris, some other guy, Becca, her hubby Paul, Sandy, and some guy that looks like the chef from The Sopranos. We dined on truly excellent foods -- the turkey was so succulent!! And we talked of politics and jobs. Sandy and Becca both encouraged me to get in touch with them, so they could connect me to the Rainbow Health Initiative & China-related folk at the University's policy school. What glorious luck. By the end, I was on my way to being thoroughly connected & thoroughly smashed.

And it was all FREE!!! A $20 donation was suggested, but there was no obvious place to pay. It was apparently intended as a private gathering for the owner's friends, but when I'd emailed the resturant they said the public could come along as well, so we did. And to great bounty! Oh happy, happy Thanksgiving!!
