The true secret of being a successful Companion lies not in drawing out pleasure from clients, not even in exaggerating one's own beauty, but in taking the moments between a client entering her quarters and his climax and making them infinite, rich with pleasure and beauty and the graceful close flow of sensuality, building so slowly that only a Companion can measure the increase of her charms as they circle around her client's arms and ribcage and throat.
Some clients shuffle into the shuttle; some swagger, but all are changed when they leave. Inara changes them, staring at their bodies from under carefully tilted eyelids, washing them with concocted perfume and with the sweep of her eyelashes and the touch of her palm. Any man can climax on his own, and even many women, but none of her clients can bring themselves pleasure or they wouldn't be here, begging her to share hers.
And the pleasure lies in waiting, in watching, in paying attention to the curve of her arms hanging by her sides, in being mindful of the feel of silk against skin, of her own fingers or someone else's running over her brow and through her hair.
Companionship shouldn't mean chopping off your past or even your present desires, doesn't mean burying your mistakes or your secrets, but in knowing where to keep them, how to hide them and when to reveal them, how to wrap a veil around yourself and using it to allure, and most of all in knowing how to let the veils fall, exposing yourself at precisely the meet moment, letting them -- clients or lovers or simply friends -- share in the pleasure of revelation.
