Officially since late December (I actually left my network administrator job a month earlier) and I have been getting unemployment money (around 900 euro/ 1000 dollars a month) since February. No work for netadmins these days, except if you're an engineer with 5 years of work experience (or even 10 as I saw last night in a job offer)...

I was laid off in DC and took a bit of time to find a job in IT. One of my old roommates got laid off from the same company and same IT staff right when he had a baby and his rent was raised. It took him about six months to find another job. Can you get any short or long term contracting work?
Well, the problem is that there are really NO job ooportunities here, a lot of my friends who worked in IT and got laid off don't find anything either, some of them have been unemployed for 18 months now... It *looks* like things are becoming better now, at least there are more job offers, even if they still are for engineers with 5 years of work experience (I only have two, it was my first job) or if they ask you to do network administration/web development/C, Java and ASP development/accounting/client support/barman at the same time (and it would be very appreciated if you said you didn't want the company to pay you for all this). Hopefully things will be better in a few months when the global economy will start to rise again (?)
