So! I went up to Auckland, ostensibly just for the weekend, for it was my mum's 52nd birthday and my dad called me all like "Are you doing anything?" and I was like "Nope, still unemployed." But I was to return to Napier by Tuesday, so that I could attend a job interview for the position of assistant librarian. A really good job, in other words.
Then New Zealand experienced a freak cold snap, and all the roads South of Taupo were snowed out. I discovered this, BTW, once I had already gotten to the bus station, hauling a really inadvisably heavy duffle bag - I actually have something like rope burn on my hands, and my shoulders start screaming if I have to use my upper arms. I'm employing T-Rex arms right now. I'm going to repack in something with wheels.
Anyway, I was panicking that I would miss out on a great (and rare, sweet Jesus the employment situation right now) job opportunity because the weather chose this weekend to lose its shit, but it was okay! You know why? Because we're living in the future, and the future has internet video chat services. Overall, I think the interview went okay; they were a nice bunch of ladies and I don't think I said anything egregiously dumb. Now that it is over, my knees have stopped shaking and I am drinking green tea and forcing myself not to do a postmortem on the whole thing. Even if I don't get the job (God I hope I get the job), I have an internship at the Napier Mail lined up to start on the 22nd, which will be unpaid but at least something to put on my CV and get me back into the rhythm of things.
Here's hoping the roads are clearer tomorrow, and I can catch the bus back home then. I'm going through Sas and Jenni withdrawal.
