Possibly this doesn't say good things about me

So I meant to go to bed at a reasonable time last night (like, 1:30am, tops), only my flatmates (and musicforwolves) were staying up to watch the football. No seriously. I honestly tried to sleep, but every five minutes there was a wail of fear or a shriek, and I ended up way too invested in the results. New Zealand vs. Italy, which should not have happened, and what should not have happened even more? A TIE, BITCHES. Italy was 74 places above NZ! God bless that goalie, he had moves.

I am only too aware that I spent 3 years in Britain resisting football with all my might, only to be sucked into the FIFA stuff now, but I put it down to it not being an obnoxious country-wide obsession (I am contrary like that). We will once again be staying up until 2am to watch New Zealand vs. Paraguay on Friday, only this time there will be pizza and beer.

Anyway, I believe there was a meme the other day? Just so I don't put this off forever, here's the first one, for morbane (and sorry, it really did end up in the World War Z universe):

Zombie Apocalypse Net Benefits

"Yeah, it took us a long time to secure Wellington again." Captain Tama Guest gestures with his binoculars at the sea, where buoys mark the zombie nets. He's a heavily built, placid-looking man, and spends little time on land. His life, like many in this harbour city, is now bound to the water.

"Pre-World War Z, we were totally anti-nuclear. Nowadays, we don't care so much: a military-grade submarine is the most valuable tool we have. Think of all our unpopulated land, and how many zed-heads are still lurking out there. It's enough of a nightmare to patrol for them. Now imagine guarding against the entire Pacific ocean."

He sighs and turns to look inland, gazing at the ruins of the TSB Bank Arena. There, a survival effort turned disastrous when they were attacked from an unexpected angle - zombies that had walked across the ocean floor from Samoa, Australia, even China. Guest smiles. "We always kept out of other countries' messes, and it worked pretty well, for a while. Nowadays, we'll take refugees in return for anything with a zombie-proof hull. International co-operation, eh? Hell of a way to get it."
