challenge 01 - inspiration post

Dec 31, 2015 13:09

This is a little sooner than expected, but I had the post ready, so why not?
I hope you'll enjoy this round and happy new year to everyone!

Open the entry in a new tab for the correct layout.

The sign-up post will be open until the end of the round (january 20th).

01. contemporary art : for this round you need to focus on this list of 10 contemporary painters and make icons inspired by their works. Keep in mind that you don't have to make icons which look exactly like their paintings; just be inspired by them: the colors, the feelings, the words, the texture, whatever you want.  You can choose in which way go through this; you can go for a more technical side and focus on those aspects (the colors, the composition, the technical words, the texture), or for something more general and inspiring (the feelings, the playlist, the general words). You can do a mix, too! You have to focus at least on 5 of these.
It would be very interesting if you talk a bit about your inspirations (in general or for every single icon) when you post your entry.

1. Louise LeBourgeois ♦ her paintings focus mainly on water; she thinks that if she can capture the essence of something in constant motion, then she would be able to paint just about anything. She succeeds in making the viewer feel like they are standing next to her while she is painting, to see what she is seeing, to feel what she feels.

2. David Shillinglaw
is a British painter and muralist, known for his works which explore human nature, success and failure, and language people use in the context of their experiences. His art also draws from Ancient Egypt. He draws from the places he visited, people he met, and most importantly - times when he got lost.

3. Fran Williams
The artist finds inspiration in nature, in the sky and the sea. Her paintings focus on the physical and emotional changes human beings undergo throughout their lives. She doesn't pay too much attention to details of figures. Her paintings show vulnerability, stimulate emotional responses and look for beauty in both past and present times. The painter’s works are characterized by strong tones and brush strokes.

4. Alonsa Guevara
is a Chilean artist whose work explores the complexity of nature, blending South American visuals with the manic NY City. She spent first seven years of her life in the middle of the Ecuadorian tropical forest. Surrounded by that magnificent environment, Guevara developed a strong fascination by the light, nature and colors. Alonsa continuously explores the concept of a strong desire. She creates still life artworks full of fantasy, magical worlds, female archetypes, eroticism and even death.

5. SIT ♦ is a Dutch artist who creates intensely bold and visually striking works of art by intermixing elements of nature, death, degeneration and decay with humanistic characteristics. His paintings and sculptures show the moment when beauty loses its raison d’être, and presents its darkest side. By using black and white, SIT creates sober and melancholic images, the settings are theatrical and grotesque.

6. Ian Francis
Intricate in form and highly detailed, Ian Francis’ art is a mixture of abstraction and figuration, composed from the elements of both painting and drawing. Multi-layered and highly contrasted, Ian Francis’ paintings generate a feeling of seemingly multi-dimensional platform, with blackness and empty space surrounding the portrayed scenes and characters.

8. Line Osmundsen
is a Norwegian artist, ex clubber turned painter, best known for her use of sharp geometric forms and female characters. All through her work we can almost hear echoes of long lost days (or better said nights), we feel them while looking at her vibrant colors and sharp shapes that are crucial element of the general atmosphere in this artists’ work. Colors such as blue, teal, green, grey and bubble gum pink are those that Line did not spare in creation of her pieces.
