Yukina sighed softly as she stared at her reflection. White lace billowed out around her face, accenting her pale skin. Kurama could see that she was not excited, the way a bride should be. He felt bad for her, knowing what it was she desired but unable to ease her sorrow.

"Don't be upset, Yukina," he assured her gently, deftly smoothing the lace veil as he stared at her through the mirror. "I'm sure he'll come."

The slight demon smiled wanly at the fox spirit's uncanny ability to see her thoughts. "I know," she replied. "I just wish my brother could be here."

Kurama hid his feelings well, he thought. Yukina seemed not to notice, at the very least. He wished he could ease her pain, tell her the truth he knew only too well, but he had promised to keep the secret and so he remained silent.

Yukina shook herself and reached for the pins holding her veil in place. "Thank you, Kurama," she smiled at him. "I do the rest. Go home and get some rest, alright? Tomorrow will be very busy for all of us."

He smiled back at her and said his goodbyes. As he left the room he sensed his dark lover lurking in the hallway. He wanted to tell the fire demon to go to his sister and tell her of their siblingship. He wanted to make the little spitfire march into the room where Yukina waited and promise he would come to her wedding. But he knew better than to force anything on Hiei, even if it was for the best. Instead he merely reiterated his thoughts for the jaganshi's benefit. "You should come tomorrow, you know," he said softly so as not to alert the bride-to-be on the other side of the door. "It would mean so much to her, even if you do insist on keeping your secrets."

Hiei growled low under his breath, a warning Kurama noted, but chose to overlook. He sighed. "Hiei," he stopped. No, it wouldn't do any good. Once Hiei made up his mind, nothing would change it. "Never mind. Let's go home." He didn't check to see if the fire demon followed him as he left, though he could feel Hiei's presence hovering close by so he knew he did so. They traveled in silence all the way back to Kurama's apartment. He had left his mother's home three years ago under the pretense of going to college in a different city, though more correctly his human mother had begun to wonder at his constant and unannounced absences as well as the insane hours at which his friends would call on him.

As soon as the door closed, the author had a serious case of brain fart. Rearranging the landscape of this story to suit her new train of thought.

"Why are you so incessant that I tell her, Kurama?" Hiei asked him. "All it would do is put her in danger, you know that."

"It hasn't exactly kept her out of danger by not knowing," Kurama pointed out, and immediately regretted it. Hiei was irate. Kurama dodged him deftly and tried to placate him. "Hiei, listen to me!"

"No!" Hiei snarled, though his ire was no longer as strong. "There's no point."

"Then at least leave her a token to let her know her brother is there," Kurama reasoned. "She doesn't need to know it's you, just that her brother is there. Hiei, it would mean so much to her."

Hiei struggled to argue, but Kurama doubted that he really had any desire to refuse. Finally he saw Hiei's shoulders slump as he gave in.

"What did you have in mind, fox," he grumbled. "I know you already have an idea or else you wouldn't have said anything."

Kurama's eyes glinted mischievously. "Well yes, as a matter of fact," he all but purred. "I do have an idea."

Yukina stared curiously at her best man. Kurama couldn't keep the excited smile of his face as he helped Keiko straighten the ice demon's train. He busied himself for several minutes helping both of the bride's maids before turning to face Yukina. Keiko and Botan had done a very lovely job with both the dresses and the make up. Botan had brought a circlet of silver inlaid with delicate, dew like gems as something old; a gift from herself and Koenma. Keiko had outfitted the bride with quite the lingerie set (Kurama had seen it still in the box before Keiko had shooed him out for their dressing) as something new. She had also been prepared to lend Yukina her own garter from her and Yusuke's wedding as something borrowed, but Kurama had quietly asked her not to, informing her he had something to occupy that traditional spot. Yukina had managed to make the girls agree that her own hair was sufficiently blue.

"Alright, Kurama," Botan said at last. "What is it? You've got Yukina about ready to pass out with anticipation."

"I'm not going to pass out, Botan," Yukina admonished gently, though she smoothed the front of her dress fervently. Kurama smiled endearingly at her, wondering what expression would be on her face when he showed her his contribution.

"I have something for you," he told her. He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small silk packet. "You have your something old, something new," he smiled again, "and something blue. Now here's your something borrowed." He slipped a cord out of the packet and let the pearl like gem dangle and catch the light. Yukina gasped, Keiko and Botan were rigid in shock. The ice apparition looked at him through eyes filling with threatening tears.

"Is it really?" she breathed. "Is he..." her words caught in her throat. Kurama stepped forward and reverently slipped the necklace over her head, softly pulling her hair a veil out from the chain.

"He's here," he replied, answering her question. "And he gives you his blessing. He does want his necklace back after the ceremony, though."

"Who.."

Kurama shook his head sadly. "I can't tell you that," he said. "Just give it to me and I'll make sure he gets it."

Botan swooped in to stifle Yukina's tears before they could form perfect tear gems. The bride didn't notice. "Thank you," she mouthed, unable to give the words sound.

"This is your day," Kurama reminded her. "You don't have to thank me."

Yusuke chose that moment to come around into the room.

"Guys," he called in what seemed, to the others, to be an all to jovial tone for the occasion. "Time to get this show on the road!"

"Let's go, then," Keiko said softly. She straightened herself quickly and walked to Yusuke's side. Botan murmured to Yukina, who nodded before flashing a brilliant smile. Botan seemed content with that and walked to Kurama's side, where she would be entering the hall. At a cue from Yusuke, who stuck his head out the door to signal the band, music filtered toward them, signaling their entrance.

They marched out, arm in arm, to the tune the orchestra played. When they were settles in their positions flanking the altar the tune changed. Kurama watched as Yukina stepped into the entrance to the aisle, Hiei's tear gem glittering on her breast.

Tonight the
Super trooper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun

She smiled at him as she caught his eye, then swept the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of her brother, though she had no idea who that was. Kurama knew she wouldn't see him, though. He was hiding his ki admirably, even for Hiei, from his perch in the rafters directly above her. He kept his eyes on Yukina so as not to direct her attention.

Smiling, having fun
Feeling like a number one

She was radiant as she walked down the aisle at a stately pace. Kuwabara was practically bouncing as he stared at his lovely bride. Kurama could just barely feel the pride flickering in Hiei's temperament.

Tonight the
Super trooper beams are gonna blind me
But I wont feel blue

Yukina had reached the small dais on which the altar sat by this point. She smiled shyly at Kuwabara, who beamed back at her. The vows went smoothly, though Kurama paid only enough attention to know when to perform his part. The crowd cheered when the happy couple was pronounced man and wife and they exchanged kisses. Kurama followed them out, keeping an eye on the rafters. It didn't take long for Hiei to appear by his side as he hung along the fringes of the party.

Like I always do

"You should say hello," Kurama suggested under his breath.

"Hn," was Hiei's only reply.

"She loved your gift," Kurama continued. "It made her so happy."

"I know," Hiei admitted, "I was watching." He glanced at Kurama out of the corner of his eye before adding: "Don't bother telling me I should tell her again. I'm not going to, so you might as well give up."

Kurama shrugged as Yukina caught sight of them. Her eyes lit up and Kurama knew she had seen Hiei. He smirked inwardly, knowing he could not run away now that she had seen him.

"Kurama!" She called, making her way to them. "And Hiei! I didn't see you, I thought you didn't make it!"

"Hn," was Hiei's only response.

Yukina stared at him happily for a second, before turning to Kurama. "Kurama, you said you would give this back to my brother," she said, taking the tear gem from around her neck. "I won't ask you to do it now," beside him, Hiei tensed, but Yukina didn't seem to notice, "but I would like it if you would tell him that I love him, and I'm do glad he came to my wedding. And please tell him that, whenever he's ready to tell me, I want so much to meet him." She stretched up on her tip toes and kissed him tenderly on the cheek, depositing the necklace safely in his hand. She blushed shyly and turned back to her party.

'cause somewhere in the crowd there's you.

Kurama lifted an eyebrow as Hiei fumed silently beside him. "She doesn't know what she's saying," he grumbled under his breath.

"I think she does, Hiei," Kurama objected. "Actually, I know she does. You don't give her enough credit."

"Hn."

Then silence. They watched, quietly, as the happy couple mingled. Kurama brushed his hand against Hiei's, returning the necklace to its rightful owner. Hiei took it and replaced it around his neck faster than the eye could see. Kurama smiled sadly. Some day this little secret would come back to haunt Hiei, he knew it. But there was nothing to do about it now, save wait and hope the fire demon changed his mind before it was too late.

As the couple swept by them in the first dance Kurama could almost feel the day hovering in the very near future. But that was for another, less happy day. For now, only happiness prevailed.
