“Yeah…uh, so what are we doing here?” Axel asked scratching his head, looking over to Roxas who was incessantly trying to straighten his shirt out.

“I told you already! We’re meeting someone here Axel. Dammit, I can’t get these friggin wrinkles out of this shirt!” He was tugging at his clothing appearing like a pure maniac to any individual walking by him.

“Roxas!” Axel grabbed a flailing arm trying to avoid a direct hit in the face. Axel stopped attempting to kill the already lifeless piece of material, and instead sighed heavily than began to search around with his bright eyes.

“Hey, Blondie!” That brought focus to Axel in a heartbeat, per-say, “You, told me we were buying watermelon…you didn’t tell me we were going to meet up with Larxene!” Axel said hotly.

“Exactly.” Roxas replied, walking a few steps ahead of him brushing the back of his head with his hand.

“Roxas! Why didn’t you tell me we were meeting with Larxene! You know what…seriously, FORGET YOU!” He waved his arms in complete disregard toward his mental friend, I mean after buying a few drinks with the guy you’d think he’d tell you something.

“Because it’s not Larxene we’re meeting.” The sun was now noticeably in a sunset and Axel loved the flaming colors illuminating the sky…what he didn’t like, was that the pale blonde girl that Axel had seen speaking to Roxas at Club No Name, stood right beside Roxas, her hands behind her back, innocently enough, and smiling behind a loose strand of yellow hair.

“Hello Axel.” She said sweetly, her hand gently retrieving the lost lock of hair.

“Uh-hi. Roxas, we need to talk for like…a sec.” Unnaturally he rushed over to his glowing friend and swept him away from the girl in a blur. “What the hell do you think you’re playing at Roxas…yeah, you fuck them but you don’t pay them!” He was completely annoyed with his friend, and could tell because of his rambling mind.

“Shh! Axel she can hear you, she’s right there!” Roxas whispered harshly, even though they were ranting behind a very convenient watermelon stand, blaring some loud Ricky Martin music.

“Uh…world to Roxas, you’re in some computerized version of life…fooling around with a flippin’ sex toy!” His arms were going crazy at this point and Roxas had to dodge them with every word he said.

“Look, thanks for hanging around with me all day, but you’ve got to go…listen, there’s something about her and whatever you thought you knew….it’s wrong…I’m telling you Axel, she’s not a replica…she’s one of us.” Axel’s arms found themselves at his side, and his eyes trailed off  to birds dancing on the wind.

“But that means that…they must know about her.” His eyes followed the birds, free and smooth, dancing across a flamed sky.

“I know…but I don’t know that much. Let me try to figure out what it’s all about okay?” He put his hand on Axel’s shoulder trying to flow his urgency into him.

“Alright, fine…don’t get into it Roxas…you know what I mean, got that memorized?” He opened up a swirling black portal and disappeared into it with Roxas’ words, “It’s there...trust me.”

Roxas went back to Naminé the look that he had seen on Axel’s face inspired him to be cautious with this girl, but how on earth was he going to be able to tread on ice when she was awakening a part of him he never knew?

“You brought your sketch book.” Naminé was leaning against a rail on Station Heights, scribbling madly with the charcoal pencil she loved. When she heard Roxas, she nodded her head and smiled…his voice brought that reaction every time.

Roxas went over to the loud stand and spent some munny on watermelon slices which he shoved right underneath Naminé’s nose.

“Roxas!” She smiled bigger, “Let me just finish this, please.” He looked out into the sunset, the sun almost completely gone now, and the birds already becoming dots in the distance.

“Why are you drawing a sunset anyway?” He took a large bite out of the watermelon and savored the fresh juice dripping down his dry throat.

“It reminds me of you and Axel.” He choked on a seed and had to cough loudly to get it out.

“What? How?!” He looked at her questionably, and then glared at the watermelon trying to kill him.

“Well…Axel is just so…fiery like the crimson reds of the sunset, and you…you’re so bright.”

“Well thank you.”

“No, I mean…you are clever, but bright as in glowing…I’ve just never seen such a blue before, the blue your eyes shine.” She looked at him dreamily, but Roxas felt that her own eyes were not admiring but calculating his.

“It’s a color that I’ve never found.” She squinted her eyes into the sunset again, focusing and trailing with her free hand each spread out ray.

Roxas put the watermelon close to her cheek, “Here…take a bite.” She turned her head, hand still in the air tracing, but eyes savoring the watermelon already bitten on by Roxas. She looked up at him, his face reassuring and pressing, smiled then took a large chunk out of it.

“Hehe, don’t forget to spit out the seeds, I really think this one was out to get me this time.” He smiled, and then oddly enough he laughed.

“Whattarrr oo affin gat-“ Naminé attempted to say through her chunk-full.

“What was that? I didn’t quite catch it with you choking to death.” He smiled and laughed again.

“I said!” She swallowed hard and spit out a few seeds, “What are you laughing at?!” She smiled uncontrollably now, with watermelon staining her lips.

“You and your huge appetite, I guess they don’t feed you huh?” He spit out a few of the treacherous seeds.

“Hmm...Not this delicious stuff.” She grasped Roxas’ hand holding the watermelon slice, and moved it to her lips for another bite, less threatening than before.

“Naminé…that was the first time I laugh I think, of course it doesn’t sense like it was but…I know it was the first time here.” Now he was studying the departing sun.

“You never laugh with Axel?” She wiped the dripping juice from a corner of her mouth, looking at him.

“No, he has been the one to make me smile…but laugh, like that…never. I couldn’t feel it, but it just came out Naminé came out only for you.” The glowing red of the falling sun reflected off her pale cheeks giving an impression of a silent blush, making her so radiant to his exquisite eyes.

“Roxas…remember what you were saying about heartbeats, and how you had just remembered the sound of yours?” She was finishing up her drawing, hastily lifting her head up and down not wanting to miss a second.

“Yes, it seems so much louder with you.” He stared at the sky, the sun was gone now though it’s light was straining to remain.

“I can hear my heart too Roxas, and whenever you say my name I smile. Roxas…why are you the only one that does this?” She wasn’t looking at him anymore, but instead was gently caressing the drawing she had done.

“I’m not sure, but let’s be together more…like this, like today.” Together they finished the watermelon, tossing the remains to the few birds still scuttling for food. They never touched or moved closer to each other, they didn’t talk either, twilight had come and soon night would envelope them, but there was no silence…the beat was too beautiful to interrupt.
