I have a question about everyone's opinion of the increase of inter-office dating we've had this season.
One of the things that I love about this show is how they treat inter-office dating. As much as I like shows like Grey's Anatomy, it's kind of awesome how professional all the characters on Bones try to be and that the prospect of dating within the office is a big enough of a deal for them to at least talk about it. I loved that scene in Man in the Fairway when Jesse tries to kiss Brennan and she dodges him and point blankly says, "I work here." The very fact that Angela actually sits down with Cam and Brennan about dating Jack is all kinds of awesome, because I don't really see conversations debating the pros and cons like that too often on other shows. Especially in the case with Jack and Angela because it's not even that they are in a superior/subordinate situation, they still had the conversation.
And even though I really want Angela and Jack to get together because that pairing is made of SQUEE, I do like that Angela's hesitation was a direct result of her fear of damaging the working dynamic of the group. Because it *is* a big deal to change the dynamic of the group, and everyone is aware of that. Jack understood Angela's reasoning, even if he didn't like it, and didn't hound Angela about it more (awkward feelings and puppy dog faces nonwithstanding.) Bones has an anthropological explanation of this, which we only heard a little of. Booth knows his and Cam's relationship will in some way affect his partnership with Brennan, which is why he's so uncomfortable with his secret relationship with Cam. Even Cam despite her and Booth's decision to be in a relationship knows it's probably a good idea to keep things quiet. They are all really uncomfortable with the idea of changing the status quo for the worse.
And I think we as the audience also are afraid of that dynamic changing. Even the some of the non B/B shippers I've talked to were really hesitant about Cam's arrival because we were losing Goodman and because she was going to change the dynamic of the group and the partnership of B/B. Even in the non-romantic sense, by having Booth date Cam, it places them in this weird quasi-loyalty triangle because unlike Tessa and Rebecca, Bones has to deal with it directly.
And I know that at some point, there has to be inter-office dating because of cast size and whatnot, but I guess my question is this: how do you feel that the writers are handling the inter-office dating, since there is a lot more this season with Cam/Booth, Jack/Angela, and the B/B dance? Do you think it's messing up the dynamics of the group this season by having more hook-ups or do you think it's a good thing because it is just showing us different sides of the characters? And how natural do you feel the progression has been, particularly with Hodgins and Angela?
