Bones creator Hart Hanson has moved to clarify suggestions by series star David Boreanaz that the show could be coming to an end.
Boreanaz's messages, posted on Twitter, were widely interpreted as suggesting that the Fox show's forthcoming eighth season could be its last. However, Hanson has said that the actor could have been referring to his own contract, which runs out at the end of season eight.
Hanson told Entertainment Weekly: “We are in no way planning for it to be the last season. I mean, anything can happen in a complicated world, but we’re very, very confident in having at least a season nine, and I can see as far as season 10 before my eyes get misty.
“All [Boreanaz's] incendiary tweets have an element of truth to them. It’s never out of nowhere. It’s always connected to something, and his deal is up at the end of season eight, so it’s like, ‘Hey, how much do you love me?’ It’s possible. But again, that’s awfully far in advance.”
Hanson said that he believed Boreanaz wants the show to continue, adding: “I believe he is certainly hoping for season nine. I don’t think he’s getting tired of it.
“I think he’ll probably want a little more money when he next has a chance, but that’s completely par for the course. That’s just the way things go.
“I know him well enough after all these years. He’s just having some fun.”
Bones will return to Fox this fall, airing on Monday nights at 8pm.
