Castle boss to Bones execs: Booth and Brennan need to hook up NOW

Apr 18, 2011 19:30

As creator and exec producer of ABC’s Castle, Andrew W. Marlowe has spent a whole lot of the last three years keeping his title character and Beckett apart, and wondering how long that can go on. One thing he does know: He’d be getting pretty anxious right about now if he were Bones‘ Hart Hanson and the couple in question was Booth and Brennan.

I love Castle, no doubt about that. But Andrew Marlowe should mind his own business.

A+. This was my first thought. As much as HH drives me crazy sometimes, you would never see him telling other showrunners what they should or should not do.

Yeah, even if Marlowe makes a good point, I think it's just bad form to promote your own show by casting another show in a negative light. When you consider the fact that part of the reason Castle probably got picked up in the first place was due to the fact that the premise was similar to Bones, whose success would have made Castle a more appealing prospect to ABC, it just seems a not-so-polite thing to do.

Yes exactly. Let's not forget that half of Castle's ideas are a carbon copy of Bones. So really, he shouldn't be talking about HH at all.

Honestly, aside from the author follows a cop around and has a kid thing, both shows are completely different. And I love them both so much.

Really? lol

The fact that he writes books (Brennan), and assists the police (Booth) with his knowledge. You have the best friend (Angela), two guys supporting role (Hodgins and Zach), and let's not even forget that he has a kid (Parker). The only difference to me is that Castle is Cops, and Bones is FBI.

I'm sure there are more similarities through the episodes, that's juts the basic.

I always thought that Castle was a copy cat of Bones, but that's just me.

Really. I thought it was just a copy cat at first and then I actually started to watch the show. It surprised me so much with all the differences! The two that I listed are the only ones I see.

It's okay. We are entitle to our own opinions! :D

Don't forget how HER MOTHER WAS MURDERED and she doesn't know who did it or why and it's an ongoing investigation/plot point for the show, and Castle is going to help her solve it.

I love both shows too but sometimes their similarities make me giggle.

Exactly! See, that's another thing that is just way too similar with Bones.

Thank you for pointing that out, I have completely forgotten!

There were a ton of similarities at the start of Castle (they even used a case where someone was murdered in the same way as in his books, which obviously also happened in Bones), and that irritated me at first. But then as the show found its own feet, it became totally different, and now I actually think it's a better show. It's so much more entertaining week on week (not all these forgettable filler episodes we're getting with Bones), and the ship is handled miles better, in my opinion. It doesn't have Bones' depth, but then it's supposed to be a lighter drama.

Bones will always be my first love, but I agree about Castle finding it's own feet. I actually wrote an article for my college magazine when Castle started pointing out all the ways it was ripping off Bones and how much it irritated me. I think it's hard to argue they weren't doing that in the beginning. As time went on though they have really branched out and at this point they are just slightly similar shows, not copies.

Yeah, I think that until Beckett and Castle get together and/or his show is on its sixth season Marlowe should keep musings like this (valid, though they may be) to himself.

Yeah. Exactly. We can't forget that Castle is a mid season show, so that means that they don't even have 3 full season experience yet.

And yes, you can't compare a show that its in 6th season to a show that its in its 3rd.

I agree with you to an extent, but at the same time that's kind of the point of the comment isn't it? That he's looking at Castle in it's 3rd season and saying I'm not nearly where they are and I'm learning from watching them that I need to get these two together before my show gets to that point (season 6).
