If You Haven't 10-15-06

Ok, this is going to be my first entry in something new I'm going to try to do semi-regularly called "If You Haven't" to go over entertainment, art, etc. that I think you should check out if you haven't already. Pretty self-explanitory, so here it goes:

If you haven't seen Hard Candy yet click your Netflix shortcut right now and put it on your list. It's not only the most artsy movie I've seen in awhile, without adding a good dose of pretense, it's also an absolutely fantastic fantasy world in which a super intelligent lolita goes ape shit on an unsuspecting child predator. Comedy and intensity insues. If it doesn't make you squirm and simultaniously put a smile on your face, there's something wrong with you.

If you haven't heard it yet, go pick up The Dresden Dolls second offering, Yes, Virginia. It's minimalisim rivals The White Stripes and it is absolutely beautiful. The first four songs are the most fun that I've had listening to music in a very long time and if "Delilah" hadn't of slowed the album down at an odd moment, it could have been perfect. Do you like piano? Do you like drums? Do you like barely contained atomic energy? Then this is for you.

If you haven't played it yet, play Prey for Xbox 360 or PC. Before an enemy ever pops on the screen in this dripping with atmosphere FPS, you will be yanked into a game world like you never imagined possible. No more waiting a couple hours to warm up to the characters and the game play, you will be in love with what's going on right now! After that you will be treated to a mind fuck orgasm of gravity defying beauty and insanity. Prey will melt away your preconceptions of what an FPS should and it will give you a little throwback to the classic Descent along the way. Better yet, the fact you really can't die makes the game an easy play for any skill level. So jump in!

Which leads me too...If you haven't bought it yet, consider an Xbox 360. Past easy features like Live, Achievements, Woldwide Leaderboards, and Custom Soundtracks, everyone knows it's the games that matters. That's why Microsoft is doing everything in their power to pull your attention from Sony and I must say they're doing a damn good job. 360 is the only place you'll be able to play Dead Rising, Gears Of War, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, and an as yet unnamed Halo game co-created by Peter Jackson. Not to mention the exclusive RPG's created by the man who brought us the original Final Fantasy. I don't usually try to lean to heavily towards any system, but Microsofts actions as of late have been turning me into a total Xbot. The $600 Sony price point certainly isn't making this choice any harder, either. Look Sony, Blu Ray, 1080p, Cell Processor, these are all just words (when they're not numbers), Microsoft has been bringing the goods. When you can deliver on those, give me a call back.

If you haven't gotten sick of this yet...tune in next time.
