"The barometric pressure in the eye was 884 millibars (26.1 inches), the lowest ever recorded in an Atlantic Ocean hurricane, the center said. The lower the pressure, the greater a storm's intensity. The previous record was set in 1988 by Hurricane Gilbert, which had a reading of 888 millibars."
