In Sept. we went from middle of Ca. to middle of Wa. and my son was 15 months old. I actually called his pediatrician and told him what was going on and he prescribed me something to help relax him during flight. I'm not sure what it was but it knocked him out for like half the time. Our longest flight was only 2.5 hours and I gave it to him 1 hour before the flight. Im not sure how long you guys will actually be on the plane but for the time after he wakes up and the medicine wears off (if you can get some) bring lots of snacks. Books and toys didnt really keep my son occupied but food did lol. Good luck, hope you have the smoothest flight possible with a toddler. Oh and make sure you bring what ever his comfort object is, that helps alot. Remember you cant bring any liquids over 3 oz. so dont pack anything like that. You can buy stuff at the airport once you are through security and take it on though.

As for the extreme climate change. Im not really sure what the weather is like in NY but in San Diego it will probably be warmer than NY but not that warm. Its on the beach so you tend to get the cold winds off the ocean. Pack a little bit of everything. You wont need a big snow jacket or anything like that but bring one that is pretty warm and then maybe a sweatshirt. Basically just bring pants and some long sleeve and short sleeves. So you are prepared for whatever. Im sure its not gunna be too hot for pants.

Okay I think thats all now lol.
