Cibol - noun.
I contemplated changing my mind about cibol. My fear as wordsmith is that I don't fully understand something when I share it.
However, cibol is just one of many names for Allium fistulosum, the Welsh onion, although you may know is as a spring onion. It's a tasty ingredient and pretty ornamental plant. Cibol is the historical name.
Here's a list of all the names and variations listed in
Wikipedia:
- Cornwall--chibbles
- Jamaica--escallion
- Japan--negi
- Korea--silpa
- Scotland--sybies or syboes
Now, it would be easy to confuse the use of "Welsh" and leeks. Spring onions are non-native to Wales and uncommon in Welsh cuisine. Allium fistulosum is indigenous to China, and Wikipedia suggests the "Welsh" part is used to describe the "foreign" aspect of the plant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
