Quipu - noun.
Quipu, also spelled khipu and quipo are fascinating, complex material devices for recordkeeping and accounting. Although closely associated with the Incas, the knotted systems were also used by other peoples before the Incas and for years afterwards as well. The long quipu (pronounced key-poo) strands were made from animal hair, such as wool, or other natural fibres, such as cotton and dyed different colours.
