Qiviut - noun.
Somewhat related to last week's post on yak-shaving, qiviut is made from muskox. It's the soft under wool beneath the outer wool. This under wool is shed naturally by muskox in spring and as such, shearing isn't possible. Muskox may leave bits of wool behind where they have rubbed, although it can also be obtained from the pelts of hunted muskox.

Qiviuq [sg] or qiviut [pl] (/ˈkɪviət/ KIV-ee-ət; Inuktitut syllabics: ᕿᕕᐅᖅ; Inuinnaqtun: qiviuq;[1] Inupiaq: qiviu or qiviuq[2] (sometimes spelled qiveut)) is the inner wool of the muskox. In Inuinnaqtun the same word can be used to refer any down such as the down feathers of birds.[1]
