From the Latin jactitare meaning "to utter in public," from jactitāre meaning "to toss about."
Notes:
The noun form, Jactitation can also mean:
1. The act of boasting.
2. A false claim made in the interest of harming another.
And yet the verb form, today's word, has no link to these meanings except through its etymology.
Usage:
“The God Father spoke to his best men in his hoarse, Italian accent, "I need you to do a job for me, boys. My daughter's gone and got her heart broken and I want you to find the guy and jacitate him a little, show him what's to come if he don't make it right by her."
