Jactitate
verb
Pronunciation:
[jak-ti-tate]
Definition:
Violent movement. Thrashing, shaking, etc.
Etymology:
From the Latin jactitare meaning "to utter in public," from jactitāre meaning "to toss about."
Notes:
The noun form, Jactitation can also mean:
1. The act of boasting.
2. A false claim made in the interest of harming another.
And yet the verb form, today's word, has no link to these meanings except through its etymology.
Usage:
“The God Father spoke to his best men in his hoarse, Italian accent, "I need you to do a job for me, boys. My daughter's gone and got her heart broken and I want you to find the guy and jacitate him a little, show him what's to come if he don't make it right by her."
The Mob boss' men looked between one another but said nothing. None of them knew what the hell jacitate meant, but they knew the God Father wasn't asking them to take the guy out for lunch."
