It took me a while, but I finally finished all of my remakes of the 2019 icons you all chose! I thought it'd be fun to do a compilation post with an explanation of my remakes.
For the Spider-Gwen icon, I decided to go with a faraway crop and decided to keep the slightly retro feel. Since my texture had a speech bubble, I decided to add the "Hello, my name is..." since Gwen didn't get one in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
For the Mulan icon, I decided to use the same screencaps but arrange them a little differently because I liked the contrast between the two outfits. I also liked how she was bowing in both caps. I blended the matchmaker outfit cap into the snowy part of the armor cap. The icon was looking a little bare, so I added the lyrics from "Reflection."
For the Eowyn icon, I decided to go with a close crop. Since the original icon had sort of a brownish, muted coloring, I decided to go for a stronger more vibrant coloring but only on her hair, eyes, and lips.
For the Mulan icon, I decided go with a close crop. I thought about doing negative space, but Mulan's face would not be as visible. Since the original icon emphasized the reddish tones, I decided to emphasize the blues a little more. The icon seemed to be missing something, so I added a cloud texture on the right to add to the overall bluish tone.
For the Yu-na icon, I decided to do a slightly muted vibrant coloring as opposed to the neon vibrance of the original icon. For the cropping, I decided do a head-to-waist shot. The icon was looking a little bare, so I added some textures to emphasize the pinks, blues, and purples in Yu-na's outfit.
For the Frodo icon, I decided to emphasize Frodo's journey to Mordor by using muted tones on Frodo and black and white for the background. I didn't really like the original background, so I cut Frodo out and used a stock base for the background instead.
For the Eowyn icon, I decided to go for a faraway crop and a crisp, clean coloring. The icon was looking a little bare, so I added a texture and got the middle icon. I liked the way it turned out, but I still felt that the icon looked a little bare, so I added another texture (slightly modified) and added a slight closer crop of the same image.
For the Little Dorrit icon, I initially wanted to do a close crop of Amy and Monsieur Blandois aka Monsieur Rigaud, but instead, I decided to cut Amy out of the cap and emphasize her dress. I didn't want to do a plain background, so I added two different textures to give the look of fabric in the background. I also decided to go for a muted purple coloring to make it look more vintage.
For the Elizabeth Bennet icon, I decided to go for a close-up crop and a pastel but vibrant coloring. The icon was looking a little blah, so I decided to try a complex layout. I copy-merged what I had and duplicated the image several times and resized them in different sizes.
For the Cruella icon, I wanted to go for a complex look that focused on Cruella's half-black, half-white hair style. I found a texture that had an interesting mix of blacks and creams for the composition and blended a close-up crop of Cruella. I added text that also incorporated the half-black, half white look. It was still looking a little bare, so I added a stripe of red, Cruella's other signature color.
Thanks for choosing these icons! ^^ I enjoyed remaking them!
