[There's a brief pause after the comm turns on, then a bright, innocent young boy's voice comes through]

That communicator belongs to you. Consider it the Captain's payment for kidnapping you.

How else do you think you wound up here?

The M.S.Elegante. We're being taken to the Golden Shore, whether we like it or not, and wont be going anywhere until we've reached our destination. Or so we've been told.

I... don't know.

Told by who?

By the crew. Not that they've told us much else.

It's as much of a mystery to you as it is to me. All we've been told is that we were 'chosen'. Nothing more.

So... this must mean all the passengers who aren't crew are kidnapped people, and they're given these devices to communicate with. The door to my room was open, too...

Can all the passengers move about freely?

Exactly.

Yes, we can. Unfortunately, there are a few dangerous passengers, but they usually make their presence well known. If someone threatens you, please take it seriously. For the most part if you don't bother them, they wont bother you.

Otherwise, everything is free, help yourself to the things on deck 12, stay away from the Carnival and Spectacular^2 and try to enjoy yourself. It's all there really is to do.

Why would someone kidnap dangerous people and then leave them to do what they want?

You're satisfied with that?

I wouldn't know. They do take away weapons and dampen powers, so it does seem that they are making some sort of attempt to keep the peace.

Of course I'm not. But after five months, I haven't learned anything past what I was told on the first day. We aren't in the same world anymore-- there's a good chance that you and I aren't even from the same year or version of Japan. If we don't even know where we are or how this is even possible, how are we to get back?

I'm not saying roll over, I'm saying don't get your hopes up.

That explains where my watch went...

Five months? What's going on around here!? How long has this been going on?

Yeah, okay...

From what I can tell the people who have been here the longest got here about a month before I did. And then the crew says there have been other voyages, so who knows how many times this has happened.

There's never been any police intervention?

It's a bit hard to decide what laws should apply to a magic transdimensional boat.
