Writer's Block
Do you believe in the concept of a soulmate? Do you think you've met him or her? Do you ever worry that "the one" got away?
No, No No! I do not believe in soulmates (no matter how much fun it is to dream about that). I believe that there are many people who would be a lovely match for every person. I believe that our (the U.S) obsession with romantic love is a big part of the problem that marriages face in this modern age. We are told that "One Day Our Prince Will Come", and sweep us off of our feet, when we need to enter into relationships with our feet firmly planted on the ground. People have these gigantic "FairyTale" weddings (oh the wedding of my dreams! *swoon*), and expect to enter married life in some kind of happily ever after....
Bullshit.
Marriage(or any kind of committed long term relationship) takes WORK to work. Just hoping that your *prince* will come is a cop out. I takes away the responsibility that is needed for a loving, mature relationship. (I am not just talking out of my hat here, I have been married for well over a decade, and my married life has been full of ups and downs, hits and misses etc.)
What makes it a success is the level of commitment that *The Cock 'o The Wall* and I have each brought to the table. have there been times I have been tempted to just chuck it all? Yes, of course, and I know this holds true for the *Cock * as well. We are, however committed to caring for, supporting, and respecting each other.
Now after this rant, I still read romance stories(novels/fics whatever) and I enjoy them (yay for escapism! yay for happy endings!!). I do, however, remember that these stories are only fiction, and do not place any real faith in them being anything more than fiction. Truth, even if it is difficult, even if it rips your heart out, is still superior to fiction.
