I don't see why mods need to take their issues out on the comm. While I can see why you may want to make this the last active round (for example, the massive number of unfilled prompts, the difficulty in archiving everything on the delicious, etc), I think that is a mistake and will actively discourage new ideas in the xmfc-verse. Perhaps to remedy this situation with unfilled prompts, archiving, etc, instead have monthly rounds to encourage fills in previous rounds, give more time to archive fills, etc. There's no reason to end a good thing. This may also reduce the number of reposts of a single prompts which vary by a single word. But I see no reason to end a good thing, simply because 2 mods couldn't get along and one quit. Be mad, fine. Have a hissy fit, fine. But don't do it in public, and don't take it out on us.
If you're having trouble keeping up, ask for mod volunteers. Make an application, and select those you think would best work with you to get things done efficiently. Actually hold interviews via AIM with the prospects. request multiple emails and IMs to ensure communication happens. There are far better ways to solve the problems then to say, "I'm pissed because my fellow mod quit because blah blah blah, I think I'll just shut this down so I don't have to deal with it." If you don't want to deal with it anymore, turn the comm over to someone who would like to.
The point is she left. I don't dispute her reasons for it, believe me. I was appalled by the thread in Round 9, and firmly believe OS should have said "Okay, noted, lets find a way to remedy this. Lets get on aim now, send my a test email and we'll see where this is going wrong." However, he complete unwillingness to troubleshoot was shocking.
Could you direct me to this? I just reread the whole thread and don't see anything saying she was specifically banned. I saw a threat of removal, but no mention of actual banning?
(just trying to gather any facts I may have missed)
oakenshields13: I have explained, I have had NO E-MAILS FROM YOU IN FOUR WEEKS! How is sending me an e-mail supposed to help? I am not 'choosing' to respond to you here. You started it here. You have not, to my knowledge, tried to contact me through any other service. I did not choose this. You did. I am playing to your rules.
I do agree that it has been made into a much bigger issue than it needed to be. I do not agree that you have been quite as amicable as you are now. That's why it is done.
stardustcities is no longer listed as a maintainer or moderator of this comm. Given that they wanted to remain here as a co-mod and put this incident behind them, it's clear that oakenshields13 banned them.
Fair enough. I didn't know it was possible for mods to delete other mods. It doesn't really make sense that that would be allowed.
What gets me is why go through all the trouble to get rid of someone, and then make the current round the last one? Hence my wondering about why not add more mods. It just doesn't make sense to make a power play for sole control and then end things like you don't want to deal with it anymore. This whole thing is just a very bad situation, and the biggest losers here will be the comm members themselves. There are 3 parties involved, and all 3 need to remember that ultimatums don't work. In a place like this, when one party loses, all 3 lose, regardless of who is right or wrong.
I dislike that you had to do so. This whole thing has far too many parallels to my real life atm. I would love to take sides and rage at her with everyone on your behalf, but I'm sure you see that despite what she says, every time someone does, it puts the comm in further jeopardy. The entire thing is a lose-lose-lose situation :/
I don't expect you to take sides, don't worry. Sorry about your RL stuff. :///
I was honestly just in it to make sure the comm kept running smoothly. I'm worried that this whole incident might bring this comm down, and that's not a good thing, and definitely not something I wanted.
That's my biggest fear with it. That she WILL get fed up, and WILL delete the comm. And as so many people won't de-anon in this thread alone, I have little faith that those anon authors who haven't de-anoned to post cleaned versions of their fics will do so simply because the comm is deleted. I'm seriously considering backing up all fills that have been made, regardless of whether or not they're my cup of tea, just in case, despite the fact that I have no time to do so.
Her deleting the comm wouldn't surprise me, which is slightly terrifying.
I think backing up all the fills, if you've got the time for that, would be really amazing of you. I know a lot of people who would appreciate it. I'm definitely saving my faves.
all for backing up your fills, say ayetresa_choSeptember 21 2011, 04:16:12 UTC
I've already got all mine backed up, just on account of lj being on the fritz the last few months. I doubt I will post them anywhere, but if the comm goes down I definitely have them.
