Sticky: POSTING GUIDELINES

Jun 13, 2011 15:27

Everyone here is pretty amazing at applying the rules post when commenting. If you are new the best place to start is always to look at the comment threads in the Prompt Post to see what everyone else is doing and read these before continuing...

1. Always use the Subject Line.
It's Rule 5 because it is the best way to both attract readers to your Prompt and give other readers a chance to avoid it as they might not share your enthusiasm.

2. Put the pairing in the Subject Line first.
Pairings are listed alphabetically (e.g. Charles/Erik NOT Erik/Charles) to help with bookmarking and make everything easier to find.

Also, when listing a pairing please DO NOT USE THE CHARACTER'S ALIAS use the character's first name (e.g. Sean/Alex NOT Banshee/Havok). Otherwise there's going to be a reader who ends up with 6 bookmark folders just to stay updated with one pairing.

And always start RPF/RPS Prompts with RPF/S before the pairing. Again, it helps people to sort their bookmarks.

3. Put your kink in the Subject Line next.
What defines a kink is pretty much open to interpretation. It can be a theme, location, sex act, object, emotion - anything.

But if your kink includes: Alcohol abuse, Animal abuse, Domestic abuse, Drug abuse, Homophobic/Racist/Sexist abuse, Hatecrime, Physical abuse, Sexual abuse, Sexual abuse under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Rape, Partner rape, Harassment, Humiliation, Degradation, Torture, Non-con, Dub-con or Death - you MUST give these things priority and treat them as your kink in the Subject Line. These are known CONTENT TRIGGERS and DO upset people. If you Fill a prompt with these subjects, please do not forget to put a warning at the top of your Fill comment, too.

Everyone has been really great about using Subject Lines to highlight their content triggers so far. Please continue to do this, as it gives readers a chance to AVOID reading something that they will find personally upsetting.

When posting art Fills PLEASE just paste the url (http://www.whatever.com) DO NOT use IMG SRC embedding as an image is much harder to ignore than words.

Please continue to add kinks like: BDSM, Bestiality, Watersports, Scat, Necrophilia, Piercing, Animal play, Felching to the Subject Line if that is what your Prompt is about. These alone are NOT content triggers. They just help people find the Prompts they want to Fill. The same applies to mild kinks like: Kissing, Frottage, Oral, Cutefic and Fluff. By using the Subject Line you are helping people to make an informed choice about what they will be reading.

4. Do not post Prompts or Fills containing UNDERAGE, SHOTA OR CHAN CHARACTERS IN SEXUAL SITUATIONS

What is Underage? - under 18. ALL characters mentioned in this meme are presumed 18 in canon.
What is an Underage prompt? - Stating a character's age as less than 18 years and specifying their involvement in a sex act/situation or adding Underaged to the Subject Line.
What is NOT an Underage prompt or fill? - NOT mentioning a character's age as less than 18 years while specifying a sex act/situation. Non-sexual teenfic, kidfic and babyfic.
Whoops! There might be some Underaged sex in my Fill... - Post it to your own journal and leave a URL link to it in the comments for the Prompter.

5. Do not forget to back up your Prompts and Fills.

Always have Notepad/TextEdit, or similar, open and copy/paste your Prompts and Fills to it BEFORE hitting POST. LJ has a habit of eating comments. Losing Prompts or Fills this way is absolutely heartbreaking after you have put the time and effort into writing one.
